Lisdoonvarna Matchmaking Festival

Lisdoonvarna Matchmaking Festival

1857 – 2016

Now approaching its 160th year, the Matchmaking Festival is part of the fabric of Lisdoonvarna. The town becomes a hive of dancing and romancing every September – it has to be seen to be believed!

People have been coming to Lisdoonvarna for the Matchmaking, since 1857 and the festival is still going strong.  A huge part of the attraction, is the chance to take part in old-time dancing and country jives for as long as your legs – and your partner! – can stay going.

The town’s famous Matchmaker is Willie Daly, and the third generation of his family to answer the call of the lonely hearts. Willie has been making matches for 47 years now, and he swears by his 150 year old “Lucky Book”.

Visit the Matchmaking Festival website for more information.

In 2012, the Festival continued to evolve its trendsetting matchmaking by extending the festivities to include an extra weekend for the LGBT community. Now in its 4th year, The Outing is fast becoming established as a cracking weekend for fun and yet more dancing!

See The Outing website for a full event guide.
